Students For Health releases their official Declaration on Obamacare!
“We propose a full and complete repeal of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The individual mandate provision forces individuals not covered by insurance plans to either maintain a certain level of coverage or pay an Obamatax. Simply put, this is forcing all Americans to purchase a product heavily regulated by the government. Those who refuse to purchase the product are subject to the Obamatax. This expansion of the power of the federal government is unprecedented, unfair, and unconstitutional. Health care decisions should be made by you and your health professional, not by Washington DC.
Obamacare is a fundamentally unfair burden to young Americans. Chief Justice John Roberts, who cast the decisive vote to uphold Obamacare, admits that, “The mandate primarily affects healthy, often young adults who are less likely to need significant health care and have other priorities for spending their money.” Young Americans are forced to pay artificially high premiums due to the age rating rules of Obamacare. Because of minimum coverage requirements, many students are in danger of losing their college health plan or face an unaffordable increase in cost. Those who attend religiously affiliated colleges and universities could lose their plans altogether.
The economic result of Obamacare is enslaving our future to debt. The nearly 16 trillion dollar national debt endangers the American Dream for our generation. This amounts to generational theft. Obamacare adds to the out of control government spending that has limited our economic growth, while failing many Americans. Obamacare will continue to increase the number of Americans in Medicaid, while health care provider payments decrease. This will lead to progressively restricted access to care for those in Medicaid: Low income adults, children, and the disabled! Access to insurance does not equal access to health care. The increased financial burden of Medicaid on state budgets will result in decreased spending on other important priorities, such as transportation and education.
Essential religious freedoms are called into question under Obamacare. The government does not have the power to alter the definition of health insurance, which now includes sterilization and contraception, nor should it force Americans to violate their moral consciences or religious beliefs. Freedom of religion is rightfully one of America’s first freedoms.
The fight for Liberty is a battle that continues with each generation. Our generation will not surrender it!”
